    Sunday 5th April 2020

    Dear All,

Given the rapid changes, and the direction the government is moving towards in combatting Covid-19, we have decided that it is in the best interests of THG members that we postpone the two events scheduled at Avoncroft and Fawley until further notice.

I would like to say thank you to you all for your understanding and patience, and special thanks to Laurence who had worked tirelessly to arrange both events.

I wish you, your family and friends the very best of health, and very much look forward to seeing you at our next future event.

    With best wishes,

    Ivor Flint

    Chair & Vice President THG

    • The Friends Centre at Amberley Museum

We are pleased to announce an additional THG swapmeet for 2020.

Date: Sunday, June 21st, 2020. Venue: The Friends Centre at Amberley Museum, New Barn Road, Amberley, West Sussex BN18 9LT. Times: Swapmeet - 10am to 1.30pm, Museum Access - 10am to  4.30pm.

We have wanted to hold another swapmeet at this amazing venue for a while now and the museum has kindly made the Friends Centre available to us for an event this summer. The museum is an excellent day out in itself with numerous attractions including the extensive Connected Earth collection, vintage radio, TV and electrical exhibits, the historic town area with authentic period shops and business, a working steam railway, vintage vehicles and not forgetting the excellent Cafe.

Visitors to the swapmeet will be required to pay the museum daily entry fee of £13.60 but THG members and their guests will get a discounted rate of £12 or £10 if they are over 60 (please bring proof of age). Children between 4 and 15 years of age can enter for £6 and both current and retired BT employees can enter free of charge. THG members should bring their membership cards (you print this yourself from the membership website) and the museum ticket office will also have a list of current paid up members. Any guests attending with THG members should be with them upon arrival. Current and retired BT employees should bring their BT ID card or a copy of a pension document.

June 21st is also Fathers Day, so why not make it a family day out? There are special events at the museum on the day for all ages including demonstrations and activities with the Emergency Services and a ‘Dads Can Do’ event. Concessions are available for family groups, full details can be found on the museum website – www.amberleymuseum.co.uk. Non THG members that have paid to enter the museum are welcome to attend the swapmeet as visitors but the THG reserve the right to refuse such entry if circumstances so require.

If you are travelling by vehicle, there is ample free parking close to the museum. For those travelling by public transport, Amberley railway station is served by trains from London Victoria and is only a short walk away. A map and further travel information are available on the museum website: www.amberleymuseum.co.uk/getting-here.

Seller’s tables are available to THG members only and will cost £5 each which is payable on the day. Sellers should reserve tables in advance of the swapmeet and can do so by e-mailing me at swapmeet@thg.org.uk There will be 12 to 15 tables available and six have already been reserved so please do not leave it too late to book a table to ensure that you don’t miss out.

Sellers can drive in to the Friends Centre car park from 8.30am to 9.45am to unload but vehicles will need to be moved to the public car park by 10am as this area will then be used for Fire Service demonstrations (setting fire to things) during the day. Vehicles will be allowed back into the Friends Centre car park for loading up soon after the museum closes at 4.30pm but all purchases and unsold stock can be left in the Friends Centre between 1.30pm and 4.30pm during which time the hall will be locked.  I will have the key to the hall and will be somewhere on the museum site if access is required beforehand.

If sellers wish to depart earlier, stock can be moved to your vehicles in the public car park by hand or trolley if you have one.  Whilst we have no reason to believe that it will not be safe and secure, neither the THG nor Avoncroft Museum can be held liable for any losses or damages incurred.

I hope that this swapmeet will be well attended by both sellers and visitors and that both will make good use of the rest of the day exploring the wide variety of amazing attractions at the museum. If this event proves to be popular, we will consider making it an annual fixture so let’s make it a good one!
